Infant Phase
Due to the mixed-age classes we have at Fairhaven, learning is organised and taught on a two year rolling programme.
Below is a narrative version of our curriculum.

History will not be taught this term.
In Geography we will use an atlas, maps and globes to find out about Antarctica.
In Science we will learn about grouping and changing materials and investigating best materials to make nest. In future we will be learning about Ourselves and Plants and Animals.
In Art and Design we will learn about warm and cold colours, using different materials to create to create collage penguins. We will learn ICT programmes to create pictures.
In Design Technology will be covered in Spring and Summer term.
In PSHE and Citizenship we will learn about New Beginnings and Getting on and Falling out.
In ICT we will use drawing programmes to create pictures. We will use Word to create an invitation to Jack Frost.
In P.E. we will learning about team games. In dance we will create a penguin dance using to music and other stimulus.
In R.E. we will learn about Belonging and Celebrations.
In Music we will learn Harvest and Christmas songs.

In History we will learn all about the history of chocolate. We will visit Cadbury World as part of this.
In Geography we will locate places in the world where cocoa beans grow best. Children will learn about exotic fruits and their origin.
In Science we will look at sorting and using materials and light and dark.
In Art and Design we will make observational sketches and paintings of fruit.
In Design Technology we will plan, investigate, make and evaluate a package for a chocolate treat.
In PSHE and Citizenship we will talk about going for goals and how it’s good to be me!
In ICT we will use a word processing programme to type up our own poems. We will present information using 2graph. Labels for our package will be created using word art on a word document.
In P.E. we will create sequences on small and large apparatus in gymnastics. In dance, we will create a dance to ‘Chocco Chocco’
In R.E. we will learn about beliefs and practise, celebrations, festivals and Easter.
In Music we will follow the music express programme and learn about body percussion.

In History we will learn all about Victorian seaside. As part of this we will be visiting Haden Hill House. We will learn about Grace Darling.
In Geography we will use atlas and maps to locate seaside places in the UK and beyond. We will identify human and man- man features. We will look at our local environment and compare it to other places. Through the story of Katie Morag and the New Pier will look at changes in the environment and the impact of these.
In Science 1N and 1/2D have learnt about Light and Dark and Electricity through the story of The Lighthouse Keeper`s Lunch. We have all learnt about Plants and Animals in our local area. 2G have also learnt about Variation. Children will also learn about Pushes and Pulls and Sound & Hearing.
In Art and Design we will learn about mark marking, painting skills, using different materials and colour mixing. We will use these skills to make observational drawings.
In Design Technology we will simple puppets.
In PSHE and Citizenship we will learning about Changes and Relationships.
In ICT we will learning how to research using search engines. We will be using Goggle maps to identify seaside places.
In P.E. we will dance to seaside music and stimulus and in games lessons, we will develop our gross and fine motor skills with a sports coach. Gymnastics we will continue to create sequences on small and large apparatus
In R.E. we will be learning about Judiasm and places of worships.
In Music we will creating and composing simple musical patterns using untuned instruments and singing seaside songs.

Cycle 2 (2012-13)

In History we will be studying the Great Fire of London. Children will be using time words and placing events and objects into chronological order.
In Geography children will be locating London using maps and atlases. Children will be making their own street maps.
In Science we will be learning about forces and movement and also about electricity.
In Art and Design children will be exploring tools and techniques used to paint. Children to use warm colours as a background and make a silhouette of London in 1666. Children to create paintings of Tudor houses. Children will also be making firework pictures.
In Design technology children will be looking at a range of vehicles and the wheels and axles. Children to investigate wheels and axes before making their own vehicle (fire engine).
In PSHE and Citizenship we will learn about new beginnings and Getting on and falling out. Children will be learning all about fire safety in the home and when out and about.
In ICT we will experiment with word art and font styles, sizes and colours. Children will use a paint programme to produce topic-based artwork. Children will also use a search engine to research the Great Fire of London and use websites to find out more. Children will also be using 2graph to create block graphs and car charts.
In PE children will work with a sports coach to develop their skills in games activities and gymnastics. Children will use action words in dance to create dance patterns and movements.
In RE we will be thinking about Jesus and the stories he told. We will also be developing our knowledge of celebrations, in particular Christmas.
In Music children will be singing songs about the topic and using instruments to keep a steady beat.

In History, we will be thinking about the lives of people in the past. Children will compare life in medieval times and today. Focus on the first castles and famous knights.
In Geography, children will be thinking about where castles were built and why. Children will explore the features of castles.
In Science, children will be focusing on Health and Growth and Materials. Children will explore how materials can be grouped and changed.
In Art and Design, children will be creating self-portraits of themselves as a prince / princess.
In Design and Technology, children will create a moving picture using sliders and levers.
In PSHE and Citizenship, children will talk about going for gaols and how it’s good to be me!
In ICT, children will be familiarising themselves with the letters on the keyboard to produce poems and text on a word processing programme. Children will use images to copy and paste onto a word document.
In PE, children will be working with the sports coach to develop imagination in dance. Children will be performing a range of travelling actions, balances and jumps both on the floor and on small apparatus in gymnastics. Games lessons will continue to develop gross motor skills.
In RE, children will learn about the Jewish faith and the Torah. Celebrations will be continued with the focus of Easter.
In Music, children will use a range of percussion instruments to accompany songs and rhymes. Children to sing songs related to our topic.

In History, children will think about William Morris when beginning their artwork.
In Geography, children will be focusing on the local area. Children will be thinking about the land use and plotting this on simple maps and plans. Children will be developing their fieldwork skills and describing the features of the local environment. Children will be thinking about how the area can be improved and sustained.
In Science, we will be learning about plants and animals in the local environment and variation.
In Art and Design, children will be studying the work of William Morris using nature as a starting point for their work. Children will take photographs and use a viewfinder to create a representation of this using a range of materials.
In Design and Technology, children will use levers and sliders to create moving pictures of a secret garden.
In PSHE and Citizenship, we will be learning about changes and relationships. Children will also develop their awareness of road safety.
In ICT, children will use a floor roamer to give instructions to make things happen. Children will also use the programme 2go to give instructions and directions. Children will also create a PowerPoint presentation about the topic.
In PE, children will work with a sports coach for athletics and games activities. Children will create, practise ad perform sequences in gymnastics and wok collaboratively to create movement phrases and dances.
In RE, children will be learning about a variety of celebrations and thinking about different places of Worship.
In Music, children will describe and investigate pitch and tempo. Children will sing in unison and in a round.
